East Catskills

The East Catskills are very rugged and scenic. Most of the Catskill's best roads and scenery are located here. Some of the best roads are Platte Clove Road-CR16 (pic), CR47 (pic), CR42 (pic),  SR212, SR23A (pic), SR214 (pic) through Stony Clove, and SR28A (map) along the Ashokan Reservoir.

The East Catskills were a popular vacation destination in the 1800's. As a result, roads were built through many of the more remote and spectacular areas. As a result, riders can experience awesome sights.

Brio's, and  Sweet Sues in Phoenicia are good lunch stops. Alternatively, stop in Woodstock, the town that inspired the famous rock concert. Woodstock is still a mecca for artists and musicians. Look at this list of famous residents (list).

*Warning* - Platte Clove Road-CR16 (picture) is steep and narrow. Take SR-214 instead if you are not comfortable riding this road. Other roads like Ohayo Mountain Road (picture), SR-28A, CR47, and CR42 can be very twisty. You are responsible for your own safety so please ride responsibly.
