Ride Information & Routes

New England is a great place to ride. The region has mountains, ocean, lakes, and forests.....all within a few hours of riding. In this section you will find information about rides, roads, restaurants, and more.

This page is your key to a wealth of local information in two main parts.

(1) The navigation menu on the left side of the page will lead you to additional ride planning information.

(2) The tabular list below contains NER "Ridden and Recommended Rides."  These are excellent motorcycle rides that will be enjoyable to a visitor or a native of New England.

You can download any of the route files listed below. The rightmost column lists the format(s) in which the files were created. If you don't see a file type that your mapping program or GPS uses, use a conversion tool such as GPSBabel, or any of these.

Please also see the bottom of page for more information and learn how you can contribute.

Loop the Lake A NER favorite, this 115 mile loop has it all: great views, sweepers, twisties, elevational changes, and classic New England scenery along and around beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee, New England's largest lake. Plenty of places for food and lodging along this easy and pleasant day ride. Great 2-up ride. Great foliage ride, too.  by flanga

NH Notches In New Hampshire, a mountain pass is called a "Notch." This 406 mile loop stitches together the best ridable notches, and also includes stretches of the famed and scenic Kancamagus Highway and the less well-known but even better-to-ride Hurricane Mountain Road. Can be done as one long day, or broken in two; food and lodging abounds.  by flanga

Southern NH loop After a few nice local roads in MA this ride enters NH and hits some of the best roads southern NH has to offer - including my personal favorite, Rt137.  The ride is only 144 miles with about 4 hours actual saddle time.  Plan to have a great lunch at the Tooky Mills Pub in Hillsboro, NH (waypoint in file).  by GoldWingBob1

Quoddy Head State Park to Riverview Resort in Bethel ME. 368 miles one way
2nd day of this ride. This ride will take you north into the great woods of Northern Maine. Most of the ride is very rural on fast roads.  Posted speed limit on a lot of these roads are 55, but not too many people travel that slow up here.  Be cautious of fast moving trucks if you don’t like to travel at least 10 above.  The second half of this route takes you thru some populated areas leading you back to Bethel.  A late lunch is scheduled at Thompson's in Bingham.   by OSJ   Ride Report

Best of Western MA 1

This ride is a little over 160 miles beginning in Orange at the Dunkin/Shell station and ending at the Sugarloaf Mountain lookout in South Deerfield MA.  Which is right near interstate 91 just south of Greenfield MA. Most of this ride is on small un numbered roads, very tight technical riding, but also very fun. A peg scraper for sure if you are not on a sport bike.  It would be tough to follow this route on printed directions, much better if your gps equipped.  by OSJ   Ride Report

Catskill State Park

What a great ride! Take State Road 23A (SR-23A) west past Katterskill Falls to get to the Start point near the junction of SR-23A and SR-214. SR-214 has nice sweepers through a deep mountain pass. Ride through Phoenicia and Woodstock and sample the crazy switchbacks on Ohayo Mountain Road (SR-41.) Try SR-28A which is twisty and scenic along the Ashokan Reservoir. SR-42 (Peekamoose Road/ Watson Hollow Road) has some nice twists and runs past Peekamoose Mountain through some great forest. SR-47 runs for 21 miles through the heart of the Catskills from Route 19 in Claryville, NY to Route 28 in Big Indian, NY. This road has great twists with nice elevation changes and awesome scenery. There are very few driveways or cross streets! A river runs along the road and there are 4000 foot plus mountains on both sides of the road. SR-30 is a technical twistie that runs along the south side of the Pepacton Reservoir.

Check out Brio's in Phoenicia for great burgers and good pizza.

Day 1 Wellsboro This section of the trip is simply routed to get to the good roads of PA., so it is a lot of interstate driving. The fun begins once you get to PA RT6. Kind of reminds me of Old US RT66. Sweepers through small towns with commercial areas broken up with stretches of farmland. The Canyon Motel in Wellsboro is VERY bike friendly. Let them know you are traveling by bike when you make reservations and they will have a gift bag for you. Must do the Wellsboro Diner for Breakfast. 407 Miles by Eric5061

Day 1

Day 2 Front Royal The morning begins with one of the best roads in the East PA RT144. Twisties and sweepers for 100 miles with great rural and forest scenery. PA RT220 and I-99 are simply connectors. RT220 South of I-70 and US RT50 are wonderful long sweeprs through farmland. Be on the lookout for the "Mail Pouch" barn. Nice section of riding. The Super 8 in Front Royal is only 1 mile from Skyline Drive. Food is within walking distance. 330 Miles by Eric5061 Day 2
Day 3 Princeton Ah, some great riding on this day! Travel the entire length of Skyline Drive and a nice section of the Blueridge Parkway. Riding heaven! The rest of the route all the way to Princeton, VA is sweeper perfection. Scenes of local farms and mountains in the distance are picture perfect. The Super 8 Motel in Princeton, WV is at a major interstate exit with a Super Walmart and plenty of restaurants. This is one great day of riding. 334 Miles by Eric 5061 Day 3
Day 4 Sutton This is mountain sweeper and twisties day! Don't miss the Exibition Coal Mine Tour in Berkley, WV. It makes a good midday rest stop and you get to go down into a real coal mine. The rest of the day is heaped with twisties and mountain scenery. The New River Gorge Bridge is an engineering marvel at over 800 ft. tall. The motel at Truck Stop "64" is reasonable and clean. They often have a country band playing in the evenings in the restaurant. They were a really good time after a long day of riding. The A&W Glass Cafe is a real winner for breakfast. 313 Miles by Eric5061 Day 4
Day 5 New Market Here is a day with twisties, sweepers and then twisties once again with great mountain and rural scenery. At about the 142 mile mark you travel into the back country of the Shannadoah Mountains on Smoke Hole Road. This is a well paved but narrow mountain road. It is wise to take your time on this section. Enjoy the views and watch the blind curves. The town of New Market is very quaint with some very nice eating choices. 281 Miles by Eric5061 Day 5
Day 6 Gettysburg Well it is time to start heading back North, but via the curvy route. This day features all types of roads and is a truly enjoyable set of roads. The evening is spent in historic Gettysburg, PA. Lots of history and places to site see and restaurants of all types. Any of the noted hotels are good and reasonably priced for a tourist town. Discounts can be had on the WEB. 325 Miles by Eric5061 Day 6
Day 7 Bushkill - Port Jervis This day features some nice sections of Lancaster County PA and Amish country. As well as the Delaware Water Gap. If you like Italian food especially Veal Parm don't miss eating at Petrizzo’s Restaurant on US RT209 in Bushkill as noted on the route map. They do a great job and wonderful portions. There is a HUGE Cabellas store at the intersection of PA61 and I-78. Nice rest stop and a fabulous store to visit. There are several motels along RT6 and the Shady brook Motel is a nice one. 267 Miles by Eric5061 Day 7
Day 8 Home The last day of this trip has a morning of wonderful roads including the Hawk's Nest, NY RT97 and sum of the southern Catskills and Hudson Valley.
