Library Guidelines

(scroll down for available books and DVD's)

The NER Lending Library allows members to check out various books, magazines and videos. These items have been either purchased or donated over time by NER members. We are always looking for new materials so if you have something to donate, please send an email to the NER librarian through their profile (the current librarian is Les: Les (snoweyowl) - click the "send e-mail" link on his profile page.) You must be an active participant with at least 10 posts to check material out from the library.

The service itself is free. The only cost to you is shipping the item you have checked out to the next person on the waiting list, or back to the library. We recommend using parcel post or media rates. These are usually significantly less than other rates. We also ask that you use padded envelopes for the books to keep them in good condition.

bullet To check out an item, send an email to the librarian, thru their profile, for the item you want. If you are the first to respond, the item will be sent to you. If you were not the first to respond, you will be placed on the waiting list. The person that currently has the item will be notified of the forum name of the person next in line and waiting. When they are finished, they will email you for your address, and ship the item to you. Note, if you provide an address and do not receive the item, notify the librarian.
bullet Once you are finished with the item, and if you have not been notified someone is waiting, contact the librarian for instructions.  If there is no one waiting, you may hang on to the item until someone adds themselves to the list, but please do not hold it for more than 30 days.  If no one wishes to check the item out, we ask that you return the item to the Library. Note, if you request an address to ship an item and do not get a response, notify the librarian.
bullet Blank shipping labels and shipping instructions will be included with each item. Please remember to include these in the envelope when you send it on. Wal-Mart or CVS is a good source for large padded envelopes.
bullet Once you ship the item to the next person, please notify the librarian so they can mark you as having shipped the item. This officially transfers ownership of the item from you to them. This is extremely important as it keeps our records current and we do not lose track of items.
bullet You should try to pass items to the next person in a reasonable amount of time. We ask that you try and get it to them within 30 days. Please don't let it lie around for an extended period if someone is on the waiting list. You can always get on the list again if you don't have time to read the book, view the video, etc.
bullet Please "check out" no more than 1 item at a time as we have limited items. We want to keep items circulating as much as possible.
