Acadia Stops and Parking

There are numerous scenic spots to explore at Acadia. You could easily spend days exploring the park and its surrounding towns. The maps below show some especially scenic spots that reward riders that get off their bikes and take a few minutes to look around.

Below (map 2) is a map of the eastern half of the Park. Click on the links below to see photos of these spots. These sights should not be missed. Be sure to get off your bike and walk on Sand Beach and the trail above. Get off and see the waves crash into Thunder Hole, especially if the surf is up. Walk out onto the rocks at the Otter Cliff View to see a great view of highest point on the northeast coast. Finally walk out onto Otter Cliff and admire the fantastic view.

Get back on your bike and ride over to the Jordan Pond House and admire the great view of Jordan Pond and the Bubbles. Next take a ride up Cadillac Mountain for a great 360 degree view.

After lunch, stop and check out the views at Eagle Lake, the Selectmen's Building in Somesville, Long Pond, Manset Pier, the Bass Harbor Light, and the Bass Harbor View.

In Bar Harbor, park at the big lot at the northern terminus of Main Street. If full, try the street or one of the other 2 parking areas on the map. I've enjoyed eating at Galyn's near the parking area, but here are some other reviews. Be sure to walk and explore the areas on the map and to browse the shops on Main Street (good chocolate and ice cream.)
