Routes 250, and 39 between I-81 in Virginia and WV Route 219 are some of the very best riding roads in the east. Each of these roads crosses a series of ridges which leads to spectacular scenic and twisty rides. Riding this ride is one of the highlights of an Appalachian trip.

Ride Map

This 248 mile ride begins by riding north on Route 219 to Huttonsville.

WV Route 219

Turn right on Route 250 and get ready for 84 miles of curvy, scenic fun. Route 250 snakes up and over a series of ridges and is as good as any riding in the region. What a blast

Route 250

Cross the border into Virginia. Ride an awesome series of twists before stopping at the pretty Route 250 Scenic View.

The curves and scenery keeps coming as you traverse the final ridge and drop down into Monterey.

Stop for the friendly vibe and a drink at High's Restaurant.

The view from Monterey gives a glimpse of some more great riding ahead.

Monterey, Va

Leave Monterey and traverse some more great ridges. You will love this road!

Continue east on Route 250 to Staunton, VA. Turn south on Route 252. This road runs parallel to I-81 and has some nice curves.

Route 252

Stay on Route 52 all the way to Route 39 in Rockbridge Baths. Ride Route 39 south to Lexington, VA. Lexington is a great & pretty southern town with a lot to see. Be sure to stop at the great Southern Inn Restaurant for terrific Southern cooking. The Southern Fried Chicken was the best that I have tasted.

Don't forget their awesome pecan pie!

Leave Lexington on the same stretch of Route 39 that you came in on. Follow Route 39 west and prepare for 75 miles of great riding. Route 39 is one of my favorite roads in the region. What a great combination of curves and scenery.

Stop at the Dan Ingall's Overlook for an awesome view.

The road is especially fun once you pass Warm Springs.

Route 39 past Warm Springs

Cross back into West Virginia and ride into Marlington. Turn north on Route 219 and ride a great series of curves near Route 150.

Route 219

Continue north on Route 219 back to the hotel.
