NER Notes
Canteen Creemee in Waitsfield VT at first glance seems to be a typical ice cream window for a cone in the parking lot type joint, but it has some fun touches that add to the experience. For one thing, they have a record player and an extensive collection of music that is constantly playing…they started out mostly playing punk and punk-adjacent stuff, but they play a lot of different things (not pop, whew).
They have decent ice cream and slurpee-type drinks, but they also have an extensive menu that changes that has more interesting food concoctions that are much higher quality. Pricey and a long wait for food items (place is popular), but pretty good fried chicken, a grilled cheese and kimchee sandwich, and randomly appearing stuff (wife likes the dumplings). Very flavorful.
Unfortunately it’s in a parking lot, even the picnic benches are in the lot (which is shares with Mad Taco), but when it’s not crowded it’s pleasant to grab a seat, listen to music and get some victuals.
Right near the back way to hit the App Gap as well, so a good place to stop. They have a porta-potty out back if you need that, though there’s a gas station across the street which is much nicer). (John R.)
