NER Notes
Acadia National Park is the second most visited National Park in America. The rocky coast vistas and the view from Cadillac Mountain are justly famous. Here is a great interactive map of the Park.
This iconic ride around Mount Desert Island and Acadia Park is filled with spectacular scenery and many great places to stop. Despite the modest mileage, plan for a full day (or two). Highlights include: Cadillac Mountain, the Park Loop Road, Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, Otter Cliff View, Otter Cliff Overlook, Otter Point, the Jordan Pond House, Sargeant Drive, Bar Harbor, Seal Harbor, Northeast Harbor, the Selectman’s Building, Long Pond, Southwest Harbor, and Bass Harbor Light.
Lunch in at Galyn’s (reviews) in Bar Harbor. A good place for blueberry pie and ice cream is Quietside Cafe and Ice Cream Shop in Southwest Harbor.
We’ve split the ride GPX files into three parts to avoid crossover confusion. Part 1 to Cadillac Mountain = 42 miles, Part 2 to lunch in Bar Harbor = 28 miles, Part 3 to Ellsworth = 61 miles. Here is a link with some tips on stops and parking: tips.
