NER Notes

Routes 55, 72, 33, 250, and 39 between I-81 in Virginia and US 219 in WV are some of the very best motorcycling roads in the east. Each crosses a series of ridges which leads to spectacularly scenic and twisty rides. Riding this ladder is one of the highlights of an Appalachian trip.

This can be ridden in either direction, after inverting/reversing the routes, to take the scenic route going north or south.

This is a really nice ride with a good variety of types of riding. The scenery is quite nice and there are both twisty and curvy roads going up and down the ranges. Some sections in the mountains had a lot of gravel on the turns when I rode them in April, so be careful out there.

How were the road conditions at the time you RECENTLY rode?

    Very Good - minor imperfections
