NER Notes

This shorter ride is for those that want to savor the best of the scenic Blue Hill Peninsula and Deer Isle. Explore more of the back road scenic views and attractions. You’ll want to get off your bike often to see the sights.

Highlights include Deer Isle, Nervous Nellies (video), Stonington, Castine, Fort Knox, and the view from the Penobscot Observatory. A great 2-up ride.

Lunch is at Bagaduce Lunch in Brooksville.

ME 176 was in good shape.

I missed Parker Point Rd when I rode this before.  It was a little rough is places, but there was a nice newly paved (last year) twisty section that was great.

I would skip ME 175 from Blue Hill/ME 172 through Brooklin to Sedgwick, it was pretty rough.  Replacing culverts from ME 172 to Naskeag Rd this year and paving in 2022.  Maybe take ME 172 to Sedgwick and put up with bumps from there to the turn for Deer Isle/Stonington turn.

I didn't ride to Stonington, but the road was in good shape last year (it is scheduled to be paved next year)

The ME 176 loop through Brooksville was a little rough, but I would ride it again, unless I was looking to shave some time of this ride.  You could just take ME 175 as an alternative back to Bagaduce Lunch.

ME 199 / 166 / 166A were all paved in 2019 and are still in great shape.

How were the road conditions at the time you RECENTLY rode?

    Good/Typical
