NER Notes
Campobello Island was the summer home of FDR and is now a Canadian national park, most easily accessed across the bridge from Lubec, ME. “Down East” refers to Maine’s coast region from Penobscot Bay to the Canadian border and contains the easternmost point of the US at West Quoddy Head.
This ride includes both Quoddy lighthouses and visits Campobello Island in Canada (bring your passport.) The route swings around to Eastport before turning back west on the isolated ME route 9. Other highlights include the Blackwoods Scenic Byway, and the Blueberry Barrens around Machias.
Lunch is at Quoddy Bay Lobster in Eastport.
