NER Notes

This is a half-day loop along some of the best roads in SE Mass. The route passes by cranberry bogs that burst into vibrant reds when the berry’s are harvested. The roads through Miles Standish Forest include outstanding twisties. For the best scenery this route should be ridden in the fall.

Had a great ride today with minimal traffic along the entire route.

Some new pavement on Upper College Pond Rd and a few other spots.  The roads near the bogs were a bit rough (to be expected given heavy equipment) but most others were fine.

We ate at Walrus & Captain Bistro that readily accepted reservations for a group.  Most of the menu is gluten free and you can order smaller portions of several of their dishes.  Oxford Creamery offered good ice cream and has lobster rolls, etc. but only one picnic table for on-premise dining.

Cranberry bogs had already been harvested but the ride was worth the time.  Roads in the Myles Standish State Forest were fairly twisty but as you can imagine, speed limits were kept to a minimum.  The Brew Fish Bar & Eatery, located in Marion, MA was an excellent place to stop and eat.

    Very Good - minor imperfections

This is a nice ride, hitting some of the best roads in a fairly flat and congested area of the state. Great curves in Miles Standish SP and a few other places, but otherwise this is mostly a scenic cruise through cranberry bogs country. Traffic will be hit or miss, depending on day of week and time of day, but generally you are able to keep moving. Likely to hit less traffic, esp in the state park on iffy weather days.

Recommend a lunch stop at Little Red Smokehouse in Carver if starting late morning, or calling ahead for sandwiches at Makepeace Farm in Wareham, a bit later in the ride.

A beautiful ride in SE Mass with great scenery, little traffic, and some unexpected outstanding twisties on a generally flat route.
