NER Notes
Down East refers to the coast from Penobscot Bay to the Canadian border.
This ride explores some of the scenic peninsulas and small villages in this rural region of the Maine coast. Highlights include the Schoodic Peninsula, Schoodic Scenic Byway, Blackwoods Scenic Byway, Roque Bluffs State Park, the Blueberry Barrens around Machias, the curvy ME 191, and Quoddy Head State Park ($4.00, restrooms).
Lunch is at Frank’s Dockside in Lubec.
If you were unable to cross over into Canada to see the East Quoddy Light and the Roosevelt Compound during the Campobello Ride, be sure to make the 21 mile side-trip during this ride (included in GPX), after lunch in Lubec. Do not miss it! Bring your passport.
