NER Notes
This multi-use corridor connects Ellsworth to Ayers Junction in eastern Maine. Following the corridor of the former maine Central Railroad, the route roughly parallels the coast and the ocean is often visible, especially in Machias, which is right on the water. You’ll also enjoy views of Schoodic Mountain, salmon streams, and dense forests of birch and pine trees. Surface is crushed stone and very big bike friendly. See sunrisetrail.org for more info.
Note that all motorcycles (including road registered) using the trail must have a Maine ATV registration sticker.
