The East Finger Lakes has the spectacular Watkins Glen State Park and its scenic gorge (photo). The original Watkins Glen Road Course that hosted the 1948-1952 Grand Prix is National Historic site and you can still ride it! Taughannock Falls is the tallest single-drop waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains. The Seneca Lake Wine Trail (map) is very scenic and a great place to pick up a bottle or two. Ithaca is a great college town with a spectacular waterfall. Skaneateles is probably the prettiest Lake and town in the entire Finger Lakes Region.
This ride begins with a short drive to Watkins Glen and a circuit on the original Watkins Glen Road Course. Next visit the spectacular Watkins Glen State Park and its scenic gorge.
The ride continues north along moody Seneca Lake to the town of Seneca Falls, thought to be the inspiration for Bedford Falls in the film, It’s a Wonderful Life. Next, turn south along Cayuga Lake to some scenic twisties at Taughannock Falls. The route follows curvy Route 327 past Robert Treman State Park and skirts Ithaca before visiting spectacular Ithaca Falls. The ride turns north to Skaneateles and then ends by following NY 13 through Cortland back to the hotel.
Lunch is at Parkers Grill and Tap House or the Kitchen at Hotel Clarence in Seneca Falls, Saigon Kitchen in Ithaca, or at the Sherwood Inn in Skaneateles.
