NER Notes

The Hudson Valley’s spectacular scenery attracted the Roosevelts, the Rockefellers and the Vanderbilts. Great Hudson views are at the Cold Spring Pier, the Storm King Highway, West Point Military Academy, Bear Mountain Bridge Road & Lookout, and Perkins Memorial Drive to the top of Bear Mountain. The sub-loop of Route 106 and Arden Valley Road through Harriman State Park is one of the twistiest that you will ever ride.

The Black Dirt Region boast New York’s scenic Onion Fields and lead to twisty NY 97 and the stunning Hawk’s Nest, perched on the cliff overlooking the Delaware River. You will definitely scrape pegs on the Guymard Turnpike and enjoy spectacular NY 52 over the Shawangunk Ridge. Bike enthusiasts must see the Motorcyclepedia Motorcycle Museum while custom bike fans may enjoy visiting Orange County Choppers near Newburgh.

This is a long day (but worth it!) so get an early start. Those pressed for time can bail out after lunch & the Hawks Nest on I-84 West. You can also bail out when you cross I-17 in Wurtsboro by taking I-17 south to I-84 east.

Lunch at Arlene and Toms (reviews) in Port Jervis.
